Hurston/Wright Foundation
2021 Nonfiction Writers
Aligning with the 2021 Juneteenth celebrations, the Zora Neal Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation hosted its annual Writers Weekend, continuing its 31-year legacy of supporting and uplifting the voices of Black writers with two days of professional instruction and feedback from acclaimed authors.
This year’s virtual experience, guided by workshop leaders Crystal Wilkinson (Fiction), Imani Perry (Nonfiction) and Tara Betts (Poetry), featured seminars, discussions, and constructive feedback for busy, working writers seeking first-rate learning opportunities, but with limited time.
According to the Foundation’s website, more than 1,000 writers have participated in its small-group writing workshops – many of whom have gone on to publish successful books. Among them are authors Nicole Dennis-Benn, Amina Gautier, A. Van Jordan, and Ladee Hubbard.
The 2021 Hurston/Wright Nonfiction Writers participating in this year’s Leimert Park Book Festival include Soyica Diggs, Janice Rhoshalle Littlejohn, Derrick Reave, Marie Sutton, Leah Tucker reading their published work and works-in-progress.
